So this is my third time flying Business/First class and I don’t plan on going back to economy, ever, if I can help it. I had to fly economy when my BA flight cancelled prior to my trip without any notice or alert. I just happened to be checking my AA app, as I do each day before my trip, and noticed it had deleted from my reservation. There’s always this risk when traveling. Things often go wrong, just not usually so spectacularly. Panic set in initially and then I took a deep breath and asked myself “ok, now what can you do about it?” I eventually found a flight a day earlier to Athens that cut into my London time, so I lost one night’s reservation cost ($150), placed a new reservation in Athens ($130) and had to pay $450 or so for the new fight. I’ll definitely be asking for miles, or even better, money to compensate this when I return along with the miles lost for the cancellation, but ultimately I looked at it as a positive and set myself on the path of enjoying an extra day in Athens.

But back to the flight. Business/First class is a gift you give yourself. Having a miles credit card is the best and most economical way of making this happen. I put all my charges on the card I’m planning on using for travel and make sure to pay it off every month in full. This is how you make it worthwhile. Be strategic about using your points, search in advance for ideal flights, and never rule out flying earlier to a different destination to visit, and then fly out to your ultimate desired location in order to get the best deals for your points. For example, I booked a roundtrip from San Diego to London and then another roundtrip from London to Athens. This was less points and cheaper than booking a round trip from San Diego, CA to Athens.

The perks of business class are that it has lie flat beds, a pillow, a blanket, great meals and drinks and just overall space and comfort. The staff are stopping by regularly to see what you need and cleaning up whatever you’ve finished in a timely manner. Airlines will differ as to comfort and quality of their business class, but there are loads of YouTube and internet reviews that can give you details on whatever flights you’re interested in booking on.  Again, be strategic!

I seriously can’t imagine flying economy ever again unless the flight is relatively short. All of these bonuses make your trip so much easier and more pleasurable. Your journey can really be as great as your trip. Take the time to make it a trip you’ll never forget.
